Police Serve Restraining Order To Ex-JonBenet Suspect

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Authorities have served a temporary restraining order to the man who once falsely claimed to have murdered JonBenet Ramsey.

It came after a former acquaintance of John Mark Karr told authorities that he threatened to kill her if she revealed his attempts to form a cult of little girls to have sex with him.

Sandy Springs Police Lt. Steve Rose said Tuesday that officers issued Karr a restraining order last week at the request of San Francisco authorities.

The order was taken out by 19-year-old Samantha Spiegel, who claimed that he made "ongoing death threats" and "threats of sexual exploitation to children" in e-mails and instant messages.

Rose said detectives met with Karr for about three minutes on June 3 and served him the order just before 5 p.m.

Karr now goes by the name Alexis Valoran Reich. He drew international attention in 2006 with his arrest in Thailand over his bizarre confession. DNA tests didn't put him at the crime scene.

JonBenet and her mother, Patsy Ramsey, who died in 2006 of cancer, are both buried in Cobb County.
