Police: Man Follows Women Home From Store, Steals Their Purses

TUCKER, Ga. — DeKalb police were searching for a man who they said has been following women home from a Tucker supermarket then snatching their purses as they unload their groceries.

Police said the man struck twice last week after he followed women home from the Embry Hills Kroger on Chamblee-Tucker Road. One woman is 77 the other is 85. Neither woman suffered any major injuries, police said.

"As she was going to her door, the person tried to get in the house with her because she had her groceries," said Jennie Campbell, a friend of one of the victims. "I was surprised, but nowadays you can't be surprised at anything, because these things keep happening."

DeKalb police have increased patrols through the parking lot and planned to add a sky crane surveillance platform later this week.

Kroger is also taking actions.

"The safety of our consumers and employees is first and foremost for Kroger," said Glynn Jenkins, communications and public relations director for Kroger. "Kroger has invested in measures to improve consumer safety at the Embry Hills Kroger location including off-duty police officers, security guards, involvement in the neighborhood watch group, surveillance equipment, and associate training. Kroger is cooperating with local law enforcement to apprehend the suspects."
