DUNWOODY, Ga. — Police said a man, caught on video stealing from a Dunwoody homeowner's car, is the same man behind nearly two-dozen car break-ins on the north end of town since May 1.
In each case, police said, the man and an accomplice broke into cars through unlocked doors.
"(They're) taking anything they can get their hands on, such as wallets, GPS, anything of value inside the car," said Sgt. Mike Carlson.
Police showed Channel 2's Mike Petchenik video of the man using stolen credit cards to purchase Xbox video game systems at an Ellenwood Walmart store on Anvil Block Road.
The video shows the man and his accomplice loading the purchases into what appears to be a 2008 Ford Edge.
"We're asking our Dunwoody residents to be more vigilant," said Carlson. "We need to catch these individuals."
Petchenik talked to one victim who said she found her SUV ransacked one morning and two newly purchased portable DVD players were missing.
"It's just unnerving to think that someone was in your vehicle," she told Petchenik.
Another victim, Georgia Hart, told Petchenik she was in her home watching TV late night one night, when the thieves rummaged through an unlocked SUV in her driveway.
"It's scary and awful," she said. "It's not right."
Hart said she found the change wallet from her neighbor's car in her own vehicle.
Police said it was her neighbor's home surveillance camera that captured one of the suspects on video.
