GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County parent was handcuffed and loaded into a police car outside a school Wednesday morning and the incident was caught on home video.
Patricia Swilley, whose children are in kindergarten and fourth grade at Starling Elementary School in Grayson, was arrested inside the school gym Wednesday morning.
Channel 2 Action News obtained home video of Patricia Swilley's arrest.
"The female is twisting one arm, he twisting another. I hit the other side of the door, he flips me into the air. I hit the concrete floor," Swilley told Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh.
The incident left Swilley with a busted lip and blood on her cheeks.
School officials said she was given fair warning to leave and that she wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
"She did come to the school today despite the fact that she had a criminal trespass warning telling her she was not to be there," said Gwinnett County Schools representative Sloan Roach.
Roach said Swilley has a history of disrupting the school and this month was issued two trespassing warnings for violating school procedures.
"She was not allowed to be on campus," said Roach.
Swilley told Kavanaugh she received those warnings, but they weren't going to keep her away from her kids' school events.
"They are telling me that I can't be there, but I'm asking them why not? What were your grounds for banning me from involvement from my child's school," she said.
"She was also there today on official business as the year book photographer," said Swilley's husband, Derrell Swilley.
He said banning his wife from the school is extreme, but the arrest was excessive. Portions of the arrest are documents in another parent's photos from inside the gym.
"This should not have taken place. I don't care what was said," said Derrell Swilley.
Patricia Swilley is now charged with criminal trespass, remaining on school property without a cause, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and disruption of a public school.
She bonded out of the Gwinnett County jail late Wednesday afternoon.
