LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.,None — A Gwinnett County man faces six felony charges after police say he planted a hidden camera and videotaped his adult stepdaughter in her bedroom.
Gwinnett County police arrested 61-year-old Christopher Belcore on Dec. 31.
Belcore knew the victim her entire life before he was her stepfather, he was married to the victim's dad's sister, according to investigators.
Police said Belcore recorded a woman who temporarily stayed with him and his wife in their Lawrenceville home.
According to police, the woman turned on the television in her room and saw a live feed of the changing area she was using.
Police said Belcore hid the camera in an alarm clock in the bedroom.
"The victim initially thought the crime or the act that occurred against her was not a crime so she consulted a civil attorney," said officer Brian Kelly of the Gwinnett county police.
According to the filed lawsuit, it said she was mortified when she realized the camera saw her nude.
Belcore has been charged with five counts of eavesdropping and one count of possession/sale of eavesdropping equipment.
He was released on $67,200 bond.
The victim issued a written statement that said what Belcore did was wrong, and that she chose to hold him accountable rather than be a silent victim and let him get away with it.
Police said there are some situations when a device, similar to the one that was used, would be legal, like watching a nanny in your living room or another public area.
"We would encourage anybody looking into purchasing a device like that to do their research and determine if the device they're buying is legal for their intended use," said Kelly.
