Woman injured after car crashed into line of voters in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A voter was hurt after a car jumped a curb and crashed into a Gwinnett County polling site.

Witnesses and police told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas that the voter should be OK. She was in line at the Bethesda United Methodist Church when she was hit.

Witnesses say driver had just left the line of voters after asking about paper ballots and the line. He got into his vehicle and Gwinnett County police believe he had some sort of medical emergency.

Witnesses say he went over the curb and into the line of people waiting to vote, before pulling off across the grass and down the street.

“He just sped really fast. There was a lady standing right here, we said, ‘Run.’ She moved out of the way. I don't know if she panicked or didn't run but he just came right at us,” said witness Racquel Moore.

Another witness said the driver didn’t appear to be looking quite right.

“My friend said she saw him as he pulled up and he kind of looked like he was going to side to side,” said witness Tameika Hampton.

A man in line took off after the driver and caught up with him in a nearby subdivision. It’s unclear at this hour if he will face any charges.
