Downed trees, power outages reported in metro Atlanta after strong storms

ATLANTA — Severe weather throughout the area has downed trees and taken out the power in metro Atlanta.

The National Weather Service issued several severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the evening.

A Channel 2 photographer captured images of downed trees in Atlanta and DeKalb County.

As of 10:30 p.m., just over 40,000 Georgia Power customers in metro Atlanta were without power, as well as 17,000 Georgia EMC customers.

Park of a tree struck a home at the 1500 block of Sugar Downs Ct. in DeKalb County.

A Channel 2 photographer also spotted tree damage was also seen at on a home at Richmond Street in Atlanta.

Traffic signals were out on Peachtree Street heading into Buckhead.

Elsewhere, a large tree came down in a Roswell neighborhood, and Channel 2 viewers reported downed trees in Braselton and College Park.
