ATLANTA, Ga. — U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche is defending the Justice Department’s decision to raid the Fulton County elections hub as federal investigators continue a criminal investigation tied to the 2020 election.

Blanche spoke exclusively with Channel 2 Action News Thursday during a visit to Atlanta.
He did not provide many details about the investigation, but he defended the decision to seize boxes of 2020 ballots from the elections hub in January.
“That’s an ongoing criminal investigation. So I’m very limited in what I can talk about it,” Blanche said.
Federal agents seized the ballots as part of an investigation into alleged voter fraud. Multiple federal, state and local investigations previously found no widespread voter fraud in Georgia.
Blanche said the Justice Department believes there is probable cause that a crime occurred.
“And so there’s information that was developed that, again, is put into an affidavit,” Blanche said. “This isn’t Todd Blanche. This isn’t Donald J. Trump saying that we’re entitled to these records.”

The Justice Department is also seeking voter registration data from Georgia.
State officials are fighting that request, saying Georgia law prevents the release of private voter information. Critics have also raised concerns about voter privacy.
Blanche said the goal is to make sure people voting are eligible and that no one votes more than once.
“There is this idea that we’re doing it for nefarious purposes. We’re not,” Blanche said.
But Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Tuesday that his office’s own investigation found the state’s voter rolls are already secure.
“We actually are 99.9 percent accurate in our voter list,” Raffensperger said.
