ATLANTA — A University of Georgia running back has spent the last several months recovering at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
In July, Dante Dowdell, 21, was injured in an ATV accident near his home in Mississippi and indefinitely sidelined.

Dowdell posted an update on his recovery on Instagram on Monday, confirming that he suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs, broken collarbones and nerve damage to his right arm. He added that he had to get nine staples to his head.
“God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers!!” he wrote on social media.
Along with his statement, Dowdell shared photos and videos of his time at the Shepherd Center, including undergoing exercises like tossing a ball, walking on a treadmill and swimming.

Details on the accident that led to his injuries have not been released.
Head coach Kirby Smart told reporters at SEC Media Days that he does not know when or if Dowdell will be able to return this season.
Dowdell transferred from Kentucky to Georgia after previous stints with Nebraska and Oregon. He finished the 2025 season with the Wildcats with 560 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
