I-20 WB reopens after fatal crash

All lanes of Interstate 20 has reopened after a fatal crash Monday morning.

The crash closed all lanes east of Interstate 75/85 for several hours during the morning commute.

A medical examiner confirmed the crash was fatal just after 6:30 a.m.

Atlanta police said the driver of a Hyundai Elantra was traveling west when he struck a Nissan Murano SUV from behind, causing it to spin out onto the shoulder.

The driver of the Elantra went to check on the Murano and that’s when, police said, he returned to his car and was hit by a Buick, and then followed by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The collisions caused the vehicle to catch fire.

Authorities said the victim was outside the vehicle at the time of the crashes. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and both passengers of the Buick were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital

Triple Team Traffic's Mark Arum reported on alternate routes in the area on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.
