Threat investigation leads to evacuation at North Oconee High School

OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported threat involving North Oconee High School.

Students and staff were evacuated from the building on Friday while deputies and school officials assessed the situation.

The evacuation was conducted out of an abundance of caution.

Nearby Rocky Branch Elementary School has also been placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, though officials stated there is no indication of a direct threat to that campus.

Law enforcement personnel remain on the scene to determine the nature and credibility of the reported threat.

Additional resources have been deployed to secure the area around the school buildings.

Sheriff James A. Hale Jr. emphasized the department’s focus on the investigation.

“The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority,” Hale said.

Authorities have requested that parents and community members avoid the campus while the investigation continues.

The sheriff’s office stated this is necessary to allow law enforcement and school administrators to operate safely and efficiently.
