At least 23 tornadoes touched down in Georgia earlier this week

Severe storms wreaked havoc across Georgia late Sunday night and through Monday morning.

Severe Weather Team 2 tracked the storms every step of the way as they produced several tornadoes, damaging winds, heavy rain and hail.

The National Weather Service started to survey the damage across the southeast Monday and will continue Tuesday.

So far, there have been at least 23 tornadoes in Georgia based on NWS preliminary reports. An official report is expected later this week.

  • Bibb County: EF-1
  • Chattooga County/Walker County: EF-2 tornado
  • Cherokee County: EF-1 tornado
  • Dade County: EF-1 tornado
  • Floyd County: EF-0 tornado
  • Fulton County: EF-0 tornado
  • Greene County: EF-1 tornado (This is possibly the same tornado as Putnam and moved into Greene, TBD)
  • Habersham County: EF-1 tornado
  • Harris County: EF-0 tornado
  • Irwin County: EF-1 tornado
  • Monroe County: EF-0 tornado, EF-2 or EF-3 tornado TBD
  • Murray County: EF-2 tornado
  • Putnam County: EF-1 tornado
  • Screven County: EF-1 tornado
  • Stephens County: EF-1 tornado
  • Talbot County: EF-3 tornado
  • Upson and Lamar counties: EF-3 tornado
  • Washington County: Three EF-1 tornadoes, 1 EF-0; one tornado moved into Jefferson County

The EF-3 tornado in Upson County lifted a home off its foundation and blowing it into the middle of the road.

The NWS says they have several other counties still to survey.

Gov. Brian Kemp’s office says tornadoes also may have hit Catoosa, Chattooga, Floyd, Wayne and Walker counties.

The storms killed eight people and injured 33 others. Nearly 800 homes were damaged, with 582 suffering minor damage, 133 with major damage and 87 destroyed.
