CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — As students made their way to classes Monday at North Clayton High School, many were still stunned over the news that a beloved teacher had died.
They told Channel 2’s Sophia Choi 33-year-old Lashante Holloway, a special education teacher, had a great sense of humor and loved her students.
Police said Holloway was killed in a murder-suicide. The deaths were reported Saturday at Holloway's townhouse on Deerborne Court in southwest Atlanta.
Choi spoke with a parent Monday who could not hold back her tears.
“She was a very beautiful person inside and out, and I am so happy to have gotten to know her, because a lot of teachers do not care, but she was one that absolutely cared,” Shatika Andrews said. “I cannot stop crying.”
Police said Dwayne Brooks, of New Orleans, broke through the glass of Holloway's front door, allowed her two children to leave, shot Holloway and then shot and killed himself.
Family members said Brooks was Holloway's ex-boyfriend and the father of her youngest child.
Students said Holloway was new to the school but quickly made an impression on them.
"She was a very beautiful person inside and out and I am so happy to have gotten to know her. A lot of teachers do not care, but she was one that absolutely cared. I can not stop crying," said student Shatika Andrews.
