Police: 4 arrested after fiery crash involving stolen car

ATLANTA — Four people are arrested in connection with the crash of a stolen car in the Greenbriar area of Atlanta, police said.

A check of the tag revealed that the vehicle had been taken in a robbery in College Park, police said.

Fulton County police said followed the car to Stone Hogan Road and Greenbriar Parkway. The car crashed and burst into flames, according to police.

Channel 2’s Liz Artz spoke with the man whose car was stolen and totaled.

He believes the suspects are the same people who crashed another car that burned Friday.

Investigators told Artz that one the suspects was still wearing a cast on his arm from a police chase and accident last month.

"I think his second chance was taken. The first time was a mistake. He was given a second chance and didn't learn from it the first time," said neighbor Christopher Hunt.

Artz spoke to a man whose red Honda Accord was stolen four weeks ago from his East Point apartment. Twenty minutes later, he told Artz he got a call from police that it had been involved in a chase and crashed on Spring Street.

"it was completely totaled the front end of the car was completely gone," Hunt said.

The 16-year-old suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and warrants were signed for his arrest.

Police told Artz that same 16-year-old was inside a car Friday after it crashed on Stone Hogan Road.

Investigators said he was wearing a cast on his arm from the February incident when arrested.

"I'm not trying to laugh at that, but that’s unfortunate," Hunt said.

Fulton County detectives say Demario Baker, 24, was behind the wheel of the car when police tried to stop it.

It came back stolen out of College Park.

Inside the car they say was an 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds. Roderick Leary looked on as detectives cleared the scene Friday.

"Once you do something they need to nail you and I mean nail you," Leary said.

The first victim hopes the 16-year-old will take advantage of his third chance.

"Some people change, some people don’t. But it's up to him to make that decision for himself," Hunt said.
