FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — A pair of parents in Floyd County are both facing charges of child cruelty after their 10-year-old daughter was found living in filth at their home.
The Floyd County Police Department charged Amanda and Michael Moore with cruelty to children.
Police first began investigating the Moore family on Aug. 3, when they reported their child as missing. When officers went to the home to assist Amanda Moore, the child’s mother, in the search, the conditions inside the home were a source of concern.
According to arrest warrant affidavits for both of the Moores, their daughter’s room was in “deplorable living conditions.”

More specifically, “the floor in the child’s room was completely covered with trash, toys, what appeared to be dirty clothing, old food, broken furniture, a bed with a torn mattress that is stained brown and black, holes in the walls and an unknown brown substance or stain over her bedroom walls.”
The affidavits also describe this condition as being present throughout the home, noting brown grime on the surfaces of floors, kitchen counters and cabinets and the home’s doors.

“There was animal feces through out the home smelled very strongly of ammonia and filth,” the reports say.
Arrest warrants were initially issued for Mrs. Moore on Aug. 13.
The warrant for her describes the conditions in the daughter’s room as well as the room of her 17-year-old brother.
Conditions in the brother’s room “were not as concerning as the rest of the home,” but the floor inside was covered with “trash, clothing, broken furniture, such as dresser drawers, a TV, dishes, shoes, old dirty dolls and stuffed animals.”
The brother’s bed was also in poor condition, with a mattress torn open to the point of exposing the stuffing, bare and without sheets or bedding, stained black and brown “as if it was pulled out of a dumpster.”
Officers described the home as having stained carpets and feces covering most surfaces and items in the kitchen and living room, with trash and spoiled food at various locations, too.
While issuing the warrant for Mrs. Moore’s arrest, the officers noted that they were not sure at the time if he also lived at the home, though he was there at the time of their walkthrough.
“In the event that the father does reside in the residence, I will issue a warrant for him as well,” officers said in the affidavit for Mrs. Moore.
A warrant for Michael Moore was issued soon after. Both parents face charges for cruelty to children.
Neither are listed as currently in custody at the Floyd County Jail.
