GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County man has been in a coma for nearly a week after police say a driver ran out of patience behind slow traffic, swung into the oncoming lane and hit him as he turned.
The man was riding a scooter home from work just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 1 when the crash happened at Arc Way and Willow Wood Way, according to a Gwinnett County police crash report.

The driver told officers she thought it was OK to drive on the wrong side of the road because no one was coming in the oncoming lanes, the report says.
She said she did not see the scooter until she hit him.
Witnesses told police the driver “seemingly got impatient due to the slow-moving traffic” and drove around the cars in the eastbound lane, the report says.

The report lists life-threatening head injuries and says the man remained hospitalized. No one in the driver’s car reported being hurt.
His son wrote on a fundraising page that the crash moved his father’s skull 14 millimeters and that he is in an induced coma.
“He is stable right now but anything can happen,” his son wrote.
The son started a GoFundMe to raise money for his father’s recovery.
