Sandy Springs police seek man who opened fire outside busy bar

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police say they now know who opened fire outside a bar on a busy Metro Atlanta road this week.

Sandy Springs police released a picture of the man they say fired at least five shots outside Tony’s Sports Bar & Grill on Roswell Road late Wednesday night.

“I guess I’m not totally surprised,” said Jay Kaplan, a shopper at a business next door. “It seems like we’re hearing about things happening all over the city.”

Shoppers we spoke with also told us they’re concerned.

“Sure, it would concern anybody,” said Kaplan. “But that’s just the world we live in.”

Police believe the man fired the shots after leaving Tony’s Sports Bar.

“Prior to the shooting, two groups of people got into an argument inside the establishment,” said Sgt. Salvador Ortega with Sandy Springs Police. “Security asked them to leave, so both groups were kicked out.”

Police say that’s when the man grabbed his gun and started shooting, leaving at least one bullet hole in a restaurant window. Somehow, no one was hurt.

While Atlanta has seen several bar shootings in recent weeks, police tell me this is unusual in Sandy Springs.

“We haven’t had any bar type shootings in while, or this year, or at least several months,” said Ortega.

Police do not know the shooter’s name, but now need the public’s help in finding him.

“We know this guy is pretty dangerous,” said Ortega. “For someone to just shoot at a crowd at a business. You have no regard for human life.”
