ATLANTA, Ga. — The annual Dragon Con blood drive has set a new record, with 4,114 people donating blood over five days.

Galen Unold with LifeSouth said the record number of donors participated in this year’s Robert A. Heinlein “Pay It Forward” Blood Drive during the pop culture convention in Atlanta.
“It’s Dragon Con,” Unold said. “There’s no place like it in the world.”
LifeSouth conducted the annual drive, which is consistently ranked as the largest convention-based blood drive.
“This is one of the biggest blood drives in the world,” said Unold. “We are in critical need of all blood types.”

The donations will help patients at more than 25 hospitals in the Atlanta area, as well as about 200 hospitals and emergency service organizations across the Southeast.
LifeSouth says the Dragon Con blood drive has become an important way for convention attendees to give back while helping patients who rely on blood donations.
Dragon Con officials say more than 75,000 people attended the convention.
