ROAD SAFETY: Georgia State Troopers report 2 fatalities, hundreds of driving citations

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Public Safety is continuing its mission of taking dangerous drivers off the road this Labor Day weekend.

As of Sunday evening, the number of drivers charged with driving under the influence rose to 239.

State troopers also responded to two traffic fatalities on Georgia roadways.

“The numbers continue to climb, and so does the reminder that dangerous driving has real consequences. There is no excuse for driving impaired. Plan ahead, use a rideshare service, designate a sober driver or find another safe way home,” DPS said in a statement. “Make the right choice before you get behind the wheel.”

  • DUI arrests: 239
  • Distracted Drivers: 240
  • Seat belt violations: 424
  • Crashes: 126
  • Crashes with injuries: 47
  • Crashes with under the influence: 11
  • Crashes with CMV involvement: 4
  • Traffic fatalities: 2
