Preps underway for Peach Drop 2014

ATLANTA, Ga. — The countdown is on to ring in the new year at Underground Atlanta.

This year, you'll notice a big change with the Peach Drop; it's a huge yellow peanut M&M, about three times the size of the peach.

Organizers and volunteers at Underground Atlanta are already getting ready for the event, highlighting the fruit and candy.

"The crowd will surround the tower, the peach will drop. It will definitely be highlighted with lights and some confetti and pyro on the tower. Then, it's sequenced so from the peach, your eyes will move up toward the peanut on the tower, and the fireworks and additional confetti will go off and everyone will celebrate together," organizer Michelle Lawrence told Channel 2's Sophia Choi.

There's also a special surprise inside the peanut M&M that will be revealed after the peach drop.

This isn't the first time sponsors partnered with Underground Atlanta for the New Year's Eve event. But it's the first time they're playing such a prominent role.

Organizers are even calling this "the year of the peanut." And they say it's a perfect match, since the peanut is the official state crop.

Already, there are several events happening, leading up to the peach drop tonight. Activities include rides for kids, and music for parents, and something else for everyone, courtesy of the M&M sponsor.
