Police: Mother used extension cord to punish child

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A North Fulton County mother is in hot water after police say she used an extension cord to discipline her 8-year-old son.

Johns Creek police say social workers at Ocee Elementary School reported that the boy had marks on his body.

Police questioned the mother, Adrienne Burch, after the child told school officials that he was whipped with an extension cord.

According to an incident report obtained by Channel 2's Mike Petchenik, the mother admitted to disciplining her son for misbehaving in school.

The arrest report also said it wasn't the first time that the mother used that form of punishment.

“He was left with marks on his arms, lower back area, and this did happen with an extension cord,” Johns Creek Police Department Capt. Chris Byers said.

Police charged Burch with felony child cruelty, and removed the child from the home. She has since bonded out of jail.

Petchenik reached out to the mother to get her side of the story, but has yet to receive a response.
