ROSWELL, Ga. — The Chattahoochee River through the city of Roswell is one of the most peaceful spots you’ll find anywhere, but it’s about to get very noisy.
Grettel Barletta lives just down the street from Don White Memorial Park, where she has noticed the change in the Chattahoochee.
“Over there, and then down past the bridge. It gets shallow,” Grettel told Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen.

It gets so shallow it can interfere with paddling, rowing and fishing.
It’s one of the city’s most popular places to keep it that way, the Buddy Brown has arrived. The vessel is part of the heavy machinery to dredge this bend of the river.
Crews will dig out and deepen a stretch of the Chattahoochee River that is 600 feet long and 100 feet wide, making the section about 1.4 acres.
The plan is to remove at least 12,000 cubic yards of sediment.

The city says the total cost is not to exceed $324,231.
Barletta says it’s worth every penny.
“I do think it’s a good idea, because I paddleboard in here. I do think it’s a good idea,” she said.
The dredging could begin within 60 days.
