Man convicted of shooting girlfriend point blank after night at the club

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man will spend the rest of his life in jail for killing his girlfriend. Earlier this summer, a jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding him guilty.

Fulton County domestic violence Deputy District Attorney Asia Baysah told Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne that Jetzy Romero-Garcia had more than 40 blunt force trauma wounds and had been shot point blank in the head.

Months earlier, her boyfriend, and eventual killer, Christopher Cruz threatened her with a gun, District Attorney Fani Willis said.

Video from a half dozen cameras helped prosecutors secure a conviction in the May 2025 shooting.

“In December of 2024, the defendant pulled a loaded firearm and promised to shoot Jetzy in the head. Five months later, he kept that promise,” Chief Senior District Attorney Christinia Clark said.

Prosecutors say that cameras show the couple on a date, arriving at the Tongue & Groove nightclub and dancing inside.

In the video, Romero-Garcia can be seen running into and rebuffing an old boyfriend before playfully blowing a kiss to a security guard.

A couple of hours later, the couple can be seen arguing in the street before she rapidly walks away with Cruz tailing her.

A few minutes later, she can be seen hiding from him under a MARTA utility truck. She came out from the under truck and punched Cruz during an argument.

Cruz then forced her into the stairwell of a parking deck. He pulled out of the parking deck a few minutes later. Prosecutors say in that time, he had beaten and shot Romero-Garcia.

They say he dropped her off at Grady Memorial Hospital and claimed she was the victim of a drive-by, but an officer found the murder weapon in Cruz’s car.

In a court filing, defense attorney Amanda Clark Palmer wrote about character letters, saying “The letter writers repeatedly describe Christopher as kind, respectful, peaceful, hardworking, dependable, generous, family-oriented, disciplined, and willing to help others.”

“This duality is the exact hallmark of a domestic abuser,” Clark said.
