Metro high school closes following COVID-19 exposure, goes to digital learning

MILTON, Ga. — Fulton County Schools says Cambridge High School will be closed for face-to-face instruction because of COVID-19.

The district sent out an alert to parents saying that the school will be doing virtual learning Oct. 20 through Oct. 22, with in-person classes resuming on Friday, Oct. 23.

District officials say the closure will allow them to clean the school as well as contact trace anyone who may have been exposed to the virus.

Fulton County schools released the following statement about the closure:

"Following the FCS Closing Matrix, we have met the criteria of a Level 2 at Cambridge High School, and in consultation with Fulton County Board of Health, we are closing the school campus for 72 hours to allow for contact tracing and to clean facilities.  All students and teachers will be in remote learning on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  We anticipate school reopening on Friday for face-to-face instruction.  Individuals who will need to quarantine for longer will be notified directly.

We anticipate that additional cases may occur.  We are following the process we had laid out to address these with a localized approach to closure.  The district continues to operate with face-to-face and remote learning instruction across the county and students will continue to learn.

We fully acknowledge there are going to be cases from time-to-time that will require us to act.  We are committed to following the process we have outlined to keep our students and staff safe and limit disruption to learning.

Please follow public health guidance and do not send your child to school or report to work if you are sick or symptomatic.  Please submit a COVID-19 Report if your student fits into one or more of the following categories:

a) Has tested Positive for COVID-19 in the past 15 days

b) Currently waiting for the results of a test for COVID-19

c) Has been in close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) in the past 15 days with someone diagnosed with COVID-19."
