Metro Atlanta teacher arrested at airport on drug charges

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County teacher arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on drug charges is in jail Friday night.

Raheema Cox is a special education teacher at Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur.

Right now, it's unclear where he was headed, however, Clayton County police arrested the 44-year-old as soon as he arrived at the airport Friday.

Students Channel 2’s Michael Seiden spoke with said they couldn’t believe what their former teacher is accused of doing.

Seiden wanted to get his side of the story, so he stopped by Cox’s Atlanta home but no one was there.

According to Clayton County's Jail website, Cox is being held without bond on multiple charges, including possession of marijuana and giving a false name to police.

Seiden also checked out the school’s website where, as of Friday evening, Cox is still listed as a member of the faculty.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the district said the teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Investigators found also found drugs on another suspect as well. Seiden is working to learn the identity of the other suspect.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
