Metro Atlanta county talks keeping workers cool during excessive heat

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — It was a scorcher Monday for Georgians working outside. Only Channel 2 News rode along with the Cobb County Department of Transportation to see how they work in the dangerous heat.

When the heat index is above 90 degrees like it was Monday, supervisors ride around with crews to make sure they stay safe.

“Our mowers are out all day everyday trying to maintain the medians the sidewalks and shoulders,” Cobb DOT Deputy Director J.D. Lorenz told Channel 2.

Supervisors make sure they have cold water to hand out during the day along with cold rags to cool down the skin.

Workers mowing during the extreme heat are fully covered, including their faces with large shades and clothes to keep cool.
