COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors living near an intersection used to access the Silver Comet Trail say they are concerned about crashes and pedestrian safety.

Residents say crashes have happened repeatedly at the intersection, where pedestrians also cross to reach the trail.
John Ortez, a neighbor, said he believes speed is a major factor.
“The main cause of the accidents here is speed,” Ortez said.
Jessica Chain, the president of the homeowners association, said residents have expressed concerns about the number of accidents in the area.
She said a pedestrian signal pole was knocked down twice in the same week.
Chain also took photos of a crash over the weekend, along with photos of other crashes at the intersection.

Residents want the county to add more signs and road markings. They are also concerned about the location of the pedestrian signal, which is used by people walking to the Silver Comet Trail.
The county offered to conduct a traffic study after Chain raised concerns, but she said finding a solution has been difficult.
“They told me it wasn’t a part of the SPLOST project,” Chain said.
Some people who use the trail say they are now afraid to cross the intersection to get there.
