STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — Say hello to the City of Stockbridge’s first Black police chief, Orrin S. Hamilton. The city recently hired Hamilton to lead its police department. He brings more than 30 years of public safety experience.

Hamilton is being recognized for his high-level leadership in metro Atlanta. Hamilton most recently served as the chief of police in Austell after a 27-year career with the Cobb County Police Department.
Under Hamilton’s leadership, department-wide training in Austell increased by 59% during his first year. He upgraded digital systems, vehicle cameras and body-worn cameras. He also merged the city’s 911 operations with Cobb County to improve operational efficiency.

Hamilton’s efforts in Austell didn’t stop there. He established the Austell Police Foundation, a chaplain program and a peer support team for officers. He also initiated the department’s first state certification process.
Throughout his three decades in law enforcement, Hamilton served in every rank from patrol officer to deputy chief.
He commanded several specialized units, including the DUI Task Force, K-9, crisis negotiation, criminal investigations and special operations. He has also served as an interim police chief.
Hamilton is a member of several professional and community organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement and the NAACP. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
