She eventually was able to drive away, but police said the woman got into a wreck with two other cars. That woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for her injuries. Two other drivers ended up with minor injuries from the wreck.

Police set up a perimeter around a wooded area along Racetrack Road as they searched for the shooter.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene and showed police fanned out across a nearby neighborhood.

Jones spoke with a homeowner in the area who said he heard the shots.

“I heard the gunshots, about four or five gunshots, and they didn’t come knock or anything on my door. I happened to see someone walking through my backyard, and it caught my attention, and I go out and see what it is, and I see all the flashing lights. I come out, and all this is taking place. I look out the window, and I see M16 guns drawn, everything,” the homeowner said.

Police told Jones they caught shooter shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Earlier in the afternoon, McDonough Middle and High schools were placed on lockdown.

NewsChopper 2 flew over McDonough High School around 5:30 p.m. and saw several buses lining up outside the school. The school district said they were doing a controlled release of the students.
