Deputies warned drivers that there were both live and dead chickens in the roadway and should proceed with caution.

Authorities have not said how many chickens were killed. The driver was treated for injuries on the scene.

It took several hours for the crews to clean up the crash and gather the chickens that were still alive.

The highway reopened just before 1 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
