GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A family farm in north Georgia that has operated for decades is changing things up and will no longer offer pumpkins for sale in the fall.

The farm made the announcement just before October, the month best known for candy, costumes, and jack-o-lanterns.

In a late September post, Kinsey Family Farm co-owner Andy Kinsey said that while they are not selling the farm, it will be going through a five-year transitional period for how it operates.

Part of that change is that the family farm will be making changes to its offerings and pumpkins are no longer on the menu.

Acknowledging the elimination of “pumpkin season” as a sad change, Kinsey said the farm still plans to continue sharing the good times, just “a little differently.”

Kinsey told the community that the farm has “transitioned many times” over the past 25 years, and the next five will be yet another transition. He wrote that meant some activities the farm has performed will be eliminated while others could be added later on.

“As much as it pains our hearts the major elimination for us is that our family is truly in need of stepping away from the ‘pumpkin season’ at this juncture in our lives. Consequently beginning this year we will no longer be stocking all of those wild and wonderful fall pumpkins that we have come to love!” the statement from Kinsey says.

In brief explanation, Kinsey said that 2026 “has presented us with some major generational situations that must be attended to, conundrums that must be addressed and opportunities that must be considered.”

Kinsey said that they enjoyed the chance to share the fall and make memories with their community and that they’ll cherish those moments, but it was time to change.

“Fear not, eliminations create openings and we intend to fill those openings with new plans for the farm in the ensuing five years!” Kinsey said. “I don’t want to give too many plans away just yet, because after all they are just ‘plans’, but I can tell you that we are certainly thrilled to be able to focus more intently on Christmas and the celebration of it! It’s the greatest time of the year and we love creating an atmosphere that focuses more on the family and less on literally all the innumerable distractions!”

The next year will be the start of a “farm facelift,” according to Kinsey.
