Man points gun at someone after football game cancellation, police say

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Covington man is facing charges after police say he pulled a gun on someone at a Gwinnett County football stadium.

Duluth Police arrested 46-year-old Virgil Northington Saturday night.
Investigators say Northington was upset after a recreational league game that was supposed to be played at Duluth High’s stadium was canceled.

Police tell Channel 2 Action News that Northington wanted a ticket refund, but when he didn’t get one, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at someone.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
“I mean, there was a different way he could have handled that. He didn’t have to go to that extent,” said Duluth High student Gevante Ayers.
Duluth Police say several witnesses wrote down Northington’s tag number and that’s how they found him.
“It could have escalated, so I’m glad that people got out there and told police,” Ayers said.
Investigators say Northington has a gun permit, but was not allowed to carry it on school property.
He is charged with pointing a gun at another person and carrying a weapon in a school safety zone.
