Election workers ready for Primary Day in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — More than two thousand people have been hired to work at polling precincts in Gwinnett County for primary election day Tuesday.

“These are you neighbors, people you see at the grocery store, at your PTA meetings. These are the people we rely on to make elections happen.” said Gwinnett County Elections Supervisor Zach Manifold.

Manifold says residents have turned out in droves to vote early and by ballot.

During the 2018 primary election, 81,000 people cast votes. During this year’s advanced voting period, 55,000 people have already cast ballots.

“I think people, just more awareness and knowledge about how to vote early. After 2020, people learned a lot about this advanced voting period. You go ahead and get it out of the way.” said Manifold.

Statewide, nearly 900,000 ballots have been cast.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan spoke with several voters at the Gwinnett County Voter Registration and Elections office in Lawrenceville.

Tom Stump dropped off ballots for himself and his wife. He said it’s much more convenient than standing in line.

“It is for me and my wife. Because she is bed ridden, and I can’t stand for very long,” said Stump.

Another voter said she voted early in person.

“I did because I’m poll watching, you can’t vote on election while your poll watching. You have to do early voting.” said Linn Williams.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
