ATLANTA — Georgia Tech police are asking for the public’s help finding a first-year student who has been missing since Sunday.

Caden Qiao, a first-year Georgia Tech student, was last seen on Sept. 13. Georgia Tech Police and the Atlanta Police Department are actively searching for him.
Surveillance footage shows Qiao leaving Eighth Street East, a Georgia Tech residence hall at 555 Eighth Street, around 5:06 p.m. Sunday without any personal belongings.
He was last seen heading east on 17th Street from Northside Drive at 6:04 p.m.
Qiao was wearing a mint green T-shirt, long gray pants and black shoes with white soles.
His family reported him missing to Georgia Tech police around 10 p.m. Sept. 14.
Since then, investigators have searched on and around the Georgia Tech campus and across Atlanta, including Piedmont Park, Buckhead, streets and underpasses. Police have also checked area hospitals and local detention facilities.
Investigators have reviewed surveillance footage, issued a BOLO to law enforcement agencies and worked with Georgia Tech Housing and students to identify people who may have information.
Police also searched Qiao’s residence and secured his phone and laptop. Investigators obtained a court order to pursue information from the devices but continue to face technical security restrictions preventing access.

Georgia Tech is asking people to carefully review surveillance, doorbell and dash-camera footage from the evening of Sept. 13, particularly around Northside Drive and Deering Road.
Anyone who saw Qiao after approximately 5:36 p.m. Sept. 13, saw someone matching his description or has other information that could help investigators is asked to contact police.

“Our focus is on finding Caden and bringing him home safely,” Georgia Tech Police Chief Robert Connolly said. “We are asking members of the Georgia Tech community and the broader Atlanta community to share any information — no matter how small it may seem — that could help investigators determine where Caden went after he was last seen.”
