Woodstock is one of 32 law enforcement agencies in Georgia receiving funding under the program now through next year.

Police said the initiative aims to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities linked to impaired driving and speeding. It also focuses on increasing seat belt usage and educating the public about the dangers of driving under the influence.

Woodstock Police Chief Roland Castro welcomed the grant to support local enforcement efforts.

“This H.E.A.T. grant will help to fund specialized traffic enforcement units in Woodstock,” Castro said. “Woodstock Police Department is grateful to be part of this program designed to reduce rates of traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.”

Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, emphasized the role of enforcement and public education in preventing fatal collisions.

“Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was preventable,” Poole said.

As part of the initiative, the Woodstock Police Department will join national and statewide traffic safety campaigns, including Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It Or Ticket.

The department will conduct year-round mobilizations alongside state patrol waves, multi-jurisdictional road checks and sobriety checkpoints.

The grant funding will support the department’s enforcement operations through the end of the federal fiscal year on Sept. 30, 2027.
