ATLANTA — Former University of Georgia running back Nick Chubb made his retirement from NFL official on Friday.
Chubb, who first announced his retirement last month, signed a 1-day contract to retire with the Cleveland Browns. He said the Ohio city is a second home to him.
“The decision to retire a Brown was an easy one. To be able to officially retire as a Brown means a lot to my family and me. The Browns have the best fans in football. There were some memorable experiences with the Dawg Pound that I’ll never forget,” Chubb said in a statement.

Chubb played for UGA from 2014-2017 and finished with 4,769 rushing yards, the second-most in program history behind Herschel Walker. The Browns drafted Chubb out of UGA in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Chubb made an immediate impact his rookie season with 1,145 total yards and 10 touchdowns. He had a career-best season in 2022 with 1,525 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

His 2023 season ended early with a gruesome knee injury. But he powered back to get return to the field in 2024.
Andrew Berry, the Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager, said Chubb’s return is a memory that Cleveland fans never forgot.
“Although Nick ran his way into our fans’ hearts as the best RB in football during his prime, his story of perseverance resonates just as deeply,” Berry said.
“We are so excited for him to retire a Cleveland Brown because he embodies everything we value,” he added.
