TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — A 24-year-old west Georgia resident was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation into online child exploitation.

Brenton Purgason, of Hogansville, was charged with sexual exploitation of children - possession of child pornography.
Troup County investigators began looking into the case after receiving a report in August containing evidence that a Troup County man was possibly in possession of child pornography.
The initial lead came through what law enforcement calls a cybertip.

According to the sheriff’s office, cybertips are information provided by internet service providers, social media sites, and public reports that are given to an ICAC Task Force to investigate and prosecute individuals who use the internet to criminally exploit children.
Purgason was booked into the Troup County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
