Georgia Election 2026: Senate candidates push for voter turnout to get them into office

ATLANTA — Georgia’s Senate candidates spent their last day on the campaign trail encouraging voters to head to the polls.

But Republican Rep. Mike Collins took the opportunity to also take a last minute jab at Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff.

“He’s been running a whole different agenda the entire time he’s been there,” Collins said on Tuesday. “He is running for president.”

Collins has made the claim several times, so Channel 2’s Lori Wilson asked Ossoff on Tuesday morning about his plans.

“Is it hard to focus on this election, Senator, when everyone keeps putting your hat in the ring for 2028?” Wilson asked.

“I am single-mindedly focused on serving the people of the great state of Georgia who right now are really hurting,” he replied.

Voters who Channel 2’s Candace McCowan talked were not worried about 2028, though. They want changes to affordability now.

“I feel a little lied to. So just hoping that whoever I vote for and whatever happens, my gas will go down, my groceries will go and my rent will go,” voter Asia Welch said.

Both Collins and Ossoff believe they can get that job done, but know that voter turnout is the key to getting into the office.

“This race is close. All the races are close. I need your help,” Collins said.

“I am encouraging everybody to get out there and vote,” Ossoff said.

Both candidates are hosting result watch parties in north Fulton County on Tuesday night.
