Calhoun police said one of its officers initiated the traffic stop as part of an investigation with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police said the driver accelerated in an “intentional attempt” to hit the DEA agent head-on.

That is when the agent shot a man and woman inside the car, according to investigators.

The FBI and GBI have taken over the investigation. Calhoun police said none of their officers were hurt.

“We can confirm that the stop was initiated by one of our marked units, and from our agency’s perspective, all actions taken were within policy,” Chief Tony Pyle said.
