FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A former East Point police officer is expected back in court on Monday for a retrial stemming from 10 charges related to an alleged sexual assault.
In 2022, Richard Gooddine was acquitted on seven charges in a case where he faced accusations of sexual abuse against women and children.
While those charges were dismissed, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on 10 other charges.

The remaining charges are what bring Gooddine back to court Monday.
Channel 2’s Bryan Mims reports how prosecutors are retrying the former officer on those charges.
The first trial was more than four years ago, and prosecutor Yolanda Mack said she would pursue a retrial if the jury couldn’t agree on the charges.

At 9 a.m. on Monday, Gooddine will be back in a Fulton County courtroom for that process to start.
The former East Point police sergeant is accused of inappropriately touching three women and two teenage girls while he was an officer.
He faced 17 charges originally, a combination of child molestation, sexual assault by a law enforcement officer and violating his oath of office.
Prosecutors told the court at the time that Gooddine would assault women and children while searching them during arrests or by first gaining their trust.
Gooddine’s defense said the alleged victims had ulterior motives and made up the accusations. The former police sergeant has maintained his innocence.
In March 2022, the jury took 10 hours to deliberate before delivering the partial verdict.
“As to the indictment which alleges the defendant committed child molestation, not guilty. Count four: aggravated sexual battery. As to the indictment, which alleges the defendant committed aggravated sexual battery, hung,” the jury delivered at the first trial.
Jurors said the hung counts were because one juror believed Gooddine was innocent and refused to deliberate.
Instead, jurors said she shook her head in agreement during the defense’s presentation.
