City officials said the board of tax assessors are required to assess property values each year to determine values of taxable property in Fulton County.

This year, while the millage rate in Sandy Springs is not changing, property values have gone up, as reported in a recent reassessment.

TRENDING STORIES:

“The City’s millage rate remains 4.731 mills, the same rate set in the City Charter and held for every year since we incorporated in 2005,” a Sandy Springs spokesman told Channel 2 Action News. “Property values are rising, and the law labels that an ‘increase.’ The rollback millage rate is 4.743.”

As a result, Georgia law requires the city to hold public meetings to ensure homeowners and other property owners are informed of the increased tax.

“When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred,” the city said. “The budget adopted by the City of Sandy Springs Mayor and Council requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate, therefore, the City of Sandy Springs has finalized the FY27 budget and now must set a final millage rate. Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.”

Public hearings will be held at Sandy Springs City Hall on the following dates:

  • Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
  • Nov. 3 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
