Person shot on Georgia college campus

Fort Valley State University is a historically black school that began in 1895 as Fort Valley High and Industrial School. The first principal had been enslaved as a child. The state acquired the school in 1939, and Fort Valley State College was born.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — An investigation is underway after a person was shot on a Georgia college campus Wednesday evening, according to school officials.

Fort Valley State University confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a shooting occurred on the main campus.

The victim was identified as a non-student, according to school officials. The victim’s age and identity have not yet been released.

The suspect has not been identified.

The university’s police department requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI confirmed it is assisting in the shooting investigation and said the case remains ongoing.
