ATLANTA — Atlanta firefighters are battling a large fire that destroyed a home on Friday morning. The homeowner believes it was caused by one of her cats.
Crews responded to 689 North Avenue in northwest Atlanta, not far from the Georgia Tech campus, around 9:20 a.m.
NewsChopper 2 is flying over the scene where firefighters have blocked off the road. Firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading to the house next door.

The homeowner says she believes a cat knocked over a turtle warmer and that’s what started the fire. Firefighters rescued the cat along with several chickens and ducks from a small farm area in the back of the house.
Crews and the homeowner haven’t been able to find a second cat.
