ATLANTA — A father wants to know why police haven't arrested a driver who crashed into his family and left the scene.
Timothy Crowley says the collision caused his 5-month-pregnant fiancé to lose their child.
"All I got left is a box," Crowley told Channel 2's Tom Jones.
The mementos in a small blue box remind Crowley of the son he never got to see alive.
"I couldn't even hold him alive for one second," he said while choking up. "I named him Angelo, because he was my angel. My child died 5 days before Christmas. It was the worst Christmas of my life."
Crowley says what makes it even worse is Atlanta police have not arrested the driver who hit them from behind and drove away from the scene last December at the intersection of Lenox and Peachtree.
He says he got the driver's tag number and gave it to police before he got away.
Crowley says police found the owner of the car but told him there was nothing they could do.
"First, they tell me they're not going to be able to do anything, because I haven't seen him face to face. So in a photo lineup, it's not going to work," Crowley explained.
Crowley says police also told him this is a civil case.
"You just let people run?" he asked. "And we know who did it and nothing's being done?"
Crowley says that is unacceptable, and he wants police to arrest the driver.
"And I need is some type of justice for this," Crowley said.
Police say this is still an open case, and they are waiting on medical records and other information from an attorney before proceeding.
Crowley also thinks police should be able to use surveillance cameras at the intersection to help build a case against the driver.
Police say the cameras are part of the investigation.
