Dog dies, families displaced after apartment fire in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A dog died and six families were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment building in DeKalb County on Friday afternoon.

According to DeKalb County Fire Rescue, crews responded to a fire at a two-story building on Parc Lorraine around 3 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames on the second floor.

Falling debris had also sparked fires along parts of the first-floor exterior.

Crews first worked to extinguish the exterior flames before entering the building to put out the remaining fire.

Firefighters also searched nearby apartments and the attic to make sure the fire had not spread.

Two cats were rescued, but a dog found inside the building died despite firefighters’ efforts to resuscitate it.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist six displaced families, including 10 adults and four children.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
