COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say DNA helped them solve a 20-year-old rape case at a Cobb County school.
Marietta police say Terrence Beavers kidnapped a woman in 1994, drove her to Park Street Elementary School and attacked her.
Beavers was recently in jail in Carroll County on an aggravated assault charge.
Twenty years ago, DNA matches could only be made if a suspect was at the testing site. But now, the past can quickly catch up with a repeat offender.
The state began taking DNA from all convicted criminals six years ago.
Police say they periodically run cold case DNA through the database to look for matches. And this time they say they have their man.
Beavers has now been charged with several felonies for the rape, in addition to the assault conviction from Carroll County.
