ATLANTA — People across north Georgia might have been woken up by an earthquake early Sunday morning.
The United States Geological Survey said a 5.1 earthquake hit about two miles south of Sparta, North Carolina around 8:07 a.m.
But Channel 2 Action News has received many messages and calls from our viewers saying they felt it too. The reports stretched from Blairsville down to parts of Atlanta. Sparta is over 300 miles away from Atlanta.
The USGS is asking anyone who felt the earthquake to send a report here. So far, no damage has been spotted. Here is some of the reactions on social media.
Did you feel it? Some reports of it being felt in Blairsville and even in Atlanta. https://t.co/RBpR8cRl9s

YES!!! I’m in Decatur. My bed and the water on my nightstand were shaking. Very weird.

We're fulltime RVers staying up in Dahlonega and it shook our camper. I kept looking at my daughter and our dog, both fast asleep thinking they were moving around. It shook like a wind storm.
