LOVEJOY, Ga. — The Lovejoy City Council acknowledged on Thursday that a developer has withdrawn a Special Administrative Permit application for a proposed data center.
The city council revealed in a special called meeting that the property owner and development team now plan to pursue residential development, a concept that was previously planned for the site.
The city says the decision follows months of public engagement about the property.
Mayor Marci Fluellyn said this level of civic participation was a significant aspect of the evaluation process.
“Over the past several months, our community has engaged in thoughtful conversations regarding the proposed data center,” Fluellyn said. “We recognize that this project generated significant public interest and that many Lovejoy residents took the time to attend meetings, ask questions, share concerns and participate in the public process.”
The mayor said the city respects the shift toward an alternative vision for the site.
“This evening’s action marks the conclusion of the city’s consideration of the current data center proposal,” Fluellyn said. “We respect the developer’s decision to withdraw its application and pursue an alternative vision for the property.”
City officials said that future growth initiatives must support the community’s quality of life and protect local infrastructure. Fluellyn reaffirmed a commitment to transparent government as new development proposals reach the city for review.
“As new development proposals come before the city, we will continue to evaluate them through an open, deliberate and lawful process,” Fluellyn said. “Although this chapter is coming to a close, our work together to build an even stronger Lovejoy continues.”
The city administration expects to share additional information about a broader vision for the future of Lovejoy in the coming weeks. These updates will include opportunities for community engagement about the city’s growth and economic development.
The city says those who require accommodations to observe and/or participate in public meetings, or those who have questions regarding accessibility, should reach out to City Hall at (770) 471-2304 as soon as possible before the meeting to allow the city to make accommodations.
