Grandmother dies in DeKalb County house fire

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Family members of a 62-year-old woman are asking for prayers after the woman died in a DeKalb County house fire.

The fire broke out along Troy Cover Road around 3 p.m.

Family members confirmed to Channel 2’s Christian Jennings that the victim was Abby Lindsey.

Her niece, Samantha Lindsey, said she moved into the home with her aunt to help take care of her after her aunt suffered a stroke.

Samantha said her uncle was living in the basement of the home, and he was the person who called 911 when the fire started.

Firefighters said the fire was too intense to rescue Abby Lindsey. She died in the living room of the house.

"They're not really sure what happened. I know that she was in the house with my uncle. I left this morning, like 9:30 a.m., to head to work and got the phone call, maybe about two hours now, saying that the house was on fire," Samantha Lindsey said.

The woman told Jennings that the family just buried her cousin last week.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
