Police ask for help finding missing Clarkston woman

CLARKSTON, Ga. — The family of a missing Clarkston woman is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads them to her.

Clarkston police are asking for the community’s help in finding Merhawit Shibeshi, 26.

Shibeshi walked out of her home wearing only pajamas and a bathrobe on Feb. 2. Now, more than a week later, police want to hear from anyone who may have seen her.

“The community is very worried,” said neighbor Felicia Weinert. “Somebody had to see something, maybe on Brockett Road or Ponce de Leon. Maybe someone’s seen something.”

“We’ve exhausted all of the leads that we had initially in the case,” said Sgt. Amanda Pritchett.

Shibeshi suffers from schizophrenia. Her family is worried for her well-being, especially since Shibeshi has not routinely taken her medication the past few weeks.

Besides checking surveillance cameras and posting flyers around town, police have made it known throughout the metro area that Shibeshi has disappeared.

“We’ve done a canvass. We’ve searched wooded areas for her and still no sign of her. Shibeshi has wandered from her home before, but unlike this time, has always returned,” said Pritchett. “Her family wants her back home and we want to be able to bring her back to the family.”

Weinert is friends with the woman’s mother and feels her pain, “It’s tearing her apart. It really is.”

Typically missing adults are traceable by cellphone ping and bank cards, but Shibeshi did not take anything with her. Her social media activity has been stagnant for months.

The 26-year-old disappeared a week ago but her phone and wallet were left at home.
